My life with Mario

Just recently Nintendo introduced the video game called Mario Kart Tour. This is a moment in time when I feel like reflecting on the many fond memories I have related to Mario. I am a big fan of Mario and in this article, I want to tell you why

Playing Mario as a little child

I got my first computer when I was about 9 years old. It was a family computer so I was sharing it with others in the household. One of the games we had on it was one of the Super Mario clones made for pc. It looked very similar to the NES version that you can now play online here.

I need to be honest here. I struggled because my hands were not as fast as I needed to pass through the challenging parts of levels.

At that time I did not know anything about the tips and tricks on how to play the game. Even as it was sometimes a little frustrating it was a lot of fun nonetheless.

Just about a year ago I discovered that there are people who compete in time that it takes them to beat the whole game. They call themselves speedrunners. The speedrunning is not exclusive to Mario games and it is really fun to watch. Have a look at the world record speedrun of Mario.

Imagine Mario board game

A couple of years later I was in recovery at Spa after one of my many surgeries. While there I had a roommate who was a very creative Mario fan. He created a Mario themed board game and gave me the privilege to try to play and beat the game. I remember the joy we both shared as he told me the backstories. He told me what went into creating this board game. He also told me about the odds and situations that need to happen so that someone can beat the game.

Mario is trolling me

Much later in 2013 while working as a volunteer in the USA I was learning the ropes of communicating with people online. One of the tools that my coach used was roleplay. In this case, I could use the word troll play. This is because he pretended to be Mario looking for a princess Peach. He came to me for a piece of advice on where to find her.

Mario Kart in real life

Whilst in this same location I witnessed something very interesting. One day we had a day off and my coach dressed up as Mario and his friend dressed up as Luigi. They both owned electric scooters. So they decided to race each other just like in Mario Kart. It was a great experience to be there and see it. I am wondering what it would feel like to be one of those in the race.

Mario Kart on my phone

When I discovered that Mario kart is now available on the phone for free I felt like I need to have it. So I do have it on my Android phone and enjoy playing it. I will do a full review of the game once I put in some more playtime.
